Thing #4 -- online resources

I looked around at quite a few things starting with Book List Newsletters: I think it's great that patrons can keep up with whats going on at the library via email. All you have to do is check mark the What's New @ Linebaugh Library System, type in your email address, and subscribe. It's so easy! Then I moved on to the P4A antiques database and checked out perfume bottles where I discovered that mine is probably worth at least $100. I didn't find anything on buttermilk pitchers nor could I find anything on dinner bells/school bells by Crystal Metals Co. Oh, well. I do like the fact that they have a table of contents and it's always worth recommending to patrons who want to get an approximate idea of an item's value. I should also add that I opened the Classical Music Libray and listened to Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings while I worked on my blog. All you romance readers will appreciate the fact that this piece was played at the funeral of Grace Kelly and again at the funeral of her husband Prince Rainier. It was also used in the movie Platoon and is hauntingly beautiful. I also watched a travel video through MyLibraryDV on Arizona. My parents lived in Tucson before I was born so it was fun to see some of the same place they must have visited. This is a great site for patrons who are looking for videos other than feature films and most aren't very long. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time on this and had a lot of fun.

Thing #3

Wow! It's taken me forever to get started and I'll admit I'm kinda nervous about all this, but I'll give it a shot. I don't want to regret not doing it later. A quick review of the 7 1/2 things is determine goal, participate in acquiring a new skill, view problems as challenges, don't think it or say it unless you want it to be true, create your own learning toolbox, use technology to your advantage, reinforce your own learning, and play, be curious, read. As far as the 7 1/2 habits pertain to this particular task, the hardest for me is #4 - having confidence in myself as an effective learner and the easiest is play. The most important point we learned from the tutorial is that lifelong learning is all about having the right attitude. So I will repeat this to myself - I will, I can, I do.
